The teachers are amazing many are still going to school themselves for advanced degrees. They have so much interest in what their students do I have had non music teachers come to see me perform. Most teachers have e-boards so communication is great.

The teachers at Commack High School are extraordinary. Every teacher I have ever had has taught me very well. All teachers hold extra help sessions either before or after school, the teachers also provied regents review sessions when it comes time, and lastly they are there to help you the best they can. They will always do what they can to help, and are sincerely nice people.

I would change almost nothing.

Commack has been awarded the Blue Ribbon award for many years and continues to surpass the national averages in academics. Nationally commack is in 90th place and the education we have received is outstanding. The administration and teachers genuinely want you to succeed. They have a love for teaching that makes for an amazing place to learn and thrive. Here is where I learned to speak spanish as well as American Sign Language. I have been inducted into the National Honor Society and ASL Honor Society. I am so grateful to have been part of such an amazing school district since the age of 5 yrs old. I know that I will accomplish all that I set out to be because of the skills and preparation I have gotten through this educational institution.

Academics   2014-03-01
There is a wide array of academics offered from AP to IB to general classes.

Academics   2014-02-01
A wide range of electives are offered to interest all possible fields of study

Academics   2014-02-01
My school is nationally recognized as a blue ribbon school and has a very high quality of education provided for all students. All teachers are very personable and friendly. Scheduling is always done efficiently and the curriculum is useful. The work load is high, especially in the IB program but is definitely worth it.

Academics   2014-02-01
The academics are very difficult and overwhelming. It puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the student to constantly strive for perfection and be punished for their shortcomings. The teachers are often kind and friendly, some more so than others. At this school, a very popular class is Forensics. The scheduling process is chaotic, confusing, and very unorganized.

Academics   2014-01-01
Our teachers are perfect in their own field. Our language teachers are all native speakers of their language, the subject teachers are all of very high education status, and everyone loves what they do.

Academics   2013-12-01
This school gives students the chance to obtain the IB diploma. THough rigorous, this program is very rewarding

Academics   2013-10-01
iB classes offered and lots of other classes everyone should be able to find classes they like.

Academics   2013-10-01
Amazing teachers. I'm in IB, and it's challenging but interesting.

Academics   2013-10-01
The school offers many programs including AP, IB, college classes and Regents classes. Teacher are always more than willing to help a student, the student just needs to show that they want to do well. Scheduling process for classes is a little difficult. The guidance officers makes sure that students take all the required classes but trying to get into certain electivces is hard.

Academics   2013-10-01
The IB program as offered in my school is a prodigous workload of three-four hours of homework a night. On the other hand it has helped me learn a tremendous amount of knowledge and become a better "thinker" and student.

Academics   2013-10-01
We have great academics at my school, we are an IB school and were rated top in the nation. Our school does its best to ensure we have the best academics and that we're learning the most out of what we have.

Academics   2013-08-01
Top notch...full IB program, many AP classes, as well as full special education programs. Many electives to chose from.

Academics   2013-06-01
My school offers classes such as regents classes, honors classes, and IB classes. There is a class lever and class setting for every type of student. I have never met anyone who is uncomfortable in their class or feels extremely unprepared. All of the teachers are well beyond capable of teaching their classes. The workload can seem a bit much sometimes, but it is an amazing preparation for college.

Academics   2013-04-01
Commack offers a class for everyone. AP and IB classes are available for all students to take. The teachers in Commack always go the extra step and put in the extra effort. Teacher come to all of the events at the high school on their own time like Relay For Life, Special Olympics, Flash Mob at the mall.

Academics   2013-04-01
The academics offered at my school are IB classes

Educational Outcomes   2014-11-01
I think overall, attending Commack high school looks very good because no matter how high school was, we gained an amazing education and I think I left with a lot of knowledge and just an overall feeling of being self sufficient

Educational Outcomes   2013-05-01
I felt well over prepared for college. Commack does a great job at preparing their students for life after high school. Because they push academics so much, I felt that the transition into college classes was easy.

Overall Experience   2016-09-01
Getting involved in this school is key to making good memories and experiences. There are many clubs and organizations and classes to join for your interests. I got involved with the school's marching band and it has changed my life. I've made the greatest friends of different ages, some of which friendships I know will last a very long time. I highly recommend joining as many clubs and organizations that you can, as it both can be a destressing break from work and a way to get to know others and have fun throughout high school. If I could do it all over again I definitely would, I wouldn't be who I am today if I hadn't gotten involved in this school.

Overall Experience   2016-08-01
This school give me the opportunity to learn from people who don't just read and recite from a textbook but have actually done these thing and research on their free time! I get to experience time in a university lab to conduct life saving research and experiments.

Overall Experience   2016-06-01
Overall, my experience has been amazing at Commack High School. I have been able to seize many opportunities to not just flourish as a student, but as an individual in the world. For example, I am very involved with my school's chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Under this honor society, which I have been involved with for the past 3 years, I have been able to develop who I am as a musician. I also am able to share my love for music to my community members by performing in various concerts, school functions, and community events. However, I don't just love Commack High School because I not only receive an excellent education, nor because I love the various clubs, teams, and ensembles that I am involved with, but the fact that the entire school is an united family. There is nothing like seeing everyone dressed up for spirt week or "Battle of the Clases" week (a "sport night" event where each class competes against each other), or everyone attending the Homecoming game. It's a really humbling feeling to know that everyone is united. We support each other; Commack High School is one big family. It's an extremely uniqe thing to experience. Overall, I value every moment that I experience at Commack High School, and I look forward to all the future moments that I will get to be a part of.

Overall Experience   2016-04-01
There has been a lot about this school that has been memorable. Commack students are place more pressure on intelligence than athleticism, which I found very unique and interesting.

Overall Experience   2015-10-01
My child is happy there

Overall Experience   2015-08-01
My high school has so many unique opportunities and clubs that I love to be a part of. Joining all these clubs and sports teams helped me get to know other people better and make new friends.

Overall Experience   2015-11-01
I am having a very nice experience in High School the teachers and staff are always very helpful too me.

Overall Experience   2015-06-01
Everything about this school prepared me for college. While there are always going to be people who are unfriendly or mean, the teachers make you feel like you matter and really care about you, and the majority of the students are actually good people.

Overall Experience   2015-03-01
My school is the best public school. I rate it 5 stars.

Overall Experience   2014-07-01
It's such an amazing school compared to where I used to go in the city.

Overall Experience   2014-06-01
I'm one of those kids that try really hard to get involved in as many things as possible. I honestly love my high school and all the opportunities and things about it. I feel welcome and challenged and like there's a million possibilities out there for me. The IB program is intense and the pressure you put on yourself is crazy but as a high school, I very much so enjoy it and I love the environment here.

Overall Experience   2014-03-01
I believe I have received an excellent education at this school.

Overall Experience   2014-02-01
School has always been my top priority. My school and has always given me the opportunity to thrive. Even though there about 3000 students in the school the administration is very inviting and knows most people by name. The school offers a plethora of courses, which allows you to take courses that will help you in the future. Even though we have a ton of students the maximum class size is still about 20:1 student faculty ratio. I enjoy that because I like to ask my teachers questions and not feel like just another number in the class. I was elected class president and I feel that that experience has really uplifted my high school career. Being a part of such a school spirited district is very important to me, I love how it unites us as one. I love my school

Overall Experience   2014-01-01
I loved my time at Commack High School. I've made so many valuable friends with students and with faculty members. They have truly given all that they could offer. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Overall Experience   2013-12-01
I have visited other schools in the region for various purposes and the general feel of the school has never been matched

The teachers at Commack High School put all their faith into their students and want the best for us. They are excellent teachers, and they make the students want to learn. Commack High School has many extracurricular activities like clubs, sports, and volunteer opportunities. Overall, it is such an amazing school!

Overall Experience   2013-10-01
I am very happy with my school. I feel I am getting a very good education and will be well prepared for college.

Overall Experience   2013-04-01
I love my school it gives a student so many opportunities from different clubs to AP classes to IB classes. The administration is always there for the students. I would chose Commack High School over any other high school.

Overall Experience   2013-10-01
I love my school, it is a safe happy environment where I talk to my friends, make new connections with people and learn interesting things in the electives I take. My favorite event is the Marching Band Newsday Festival that is run through the Marching Band. It is a full day and night of fun where it is nothing but fun, playing instruments and being with the people who you know are your team.

Most students are accepting of students from different cultures.

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-02-01

Teachers   2016-08-01
Every teacher cares for the students and go above and beyond

Teachers   2016-08-01
The teachers are some of the kindest and most knowledgeable people I know. They always help me and other students in an efficient, engaging, and kind manor. I am absolutely honored to be taught by such amazing people. Zachary S. Peare

Teachers   2016-07-01
Most of the teachers in the school are devoted to the students because they genuinely want to see them succeed. however, the student needs to be willing to put in the work; the teachers are what you make of them.

Teachers   2016-04-01
The teachers and staff are all very dilligent, erudite, and willing to help students when they ask or need. Although some prefer for students to approach them first, however being a student, i personally know that people can be be shy and some students don't have a good attitude. But that's for the student and teacher to work out on their own. Overall, the staff are very sweet and caring, many are also relatable which is good for students!

Teachers   2016-07-01
Most if not all the teachers are very knowledgeable, and give thorough and engaging lessons. Teaching styles vary greatly among teachers, but each style compliments the individual subjects that are being taught. All teachers are very understanding and will make accommodations for students who want extra help or more review. Additionally, teachers follow different grading systems, and in turn some classes are graded more harshly than others.

Teachers   2016-06-01
Teachers at Commack High School are constantly involved with their students, whether it be regarding extra help or extra curricular activities. They use modern technology to invoke students to participate in a more modern and involved classroom. Additionally, they have provided fair and consistent grading in order to fairly assess and provide extra aid to each individual student. Teachers provide more than enough opportunities to succeed. They're approachable, knowledgeable, and easy to follow, even under the most rigorous of courses. It is clear to see that they love what they do and have a drive to help each student reach their maximum potential.

Teachers   2016-04-01
The teachers are wonderful, and involved with the students. They seem to truly care about the progress they are making towards their future. My experience with these teachers has been a great one.

Teachers   2015-12-01
The teachers are all very knowledgeable and friendly.

Teachers   2015-06-01
Most teachers are amazing and sincere but every once in a while you come across a teacher that is either: unknowledgeable in his/her field of teaching, extremely boring (which makes the class brutal to sit through), or just plain mean.

Teachers   2015-03-01
Teachers in my school are the best. They are very helpful.

Teachers   2014-07-01
The teachers genuinely want to help the students and are the best part about my school and education.

Teachers   2014-06-01
This year I ended up getting the best teachers for my classes. They were all great and pushed their students but in the good way. We worked hard but they were not mean or cruel in the amount of work they gave. They had great teaching methods and I felt as if I could always go to them if I ever had a problem.

Teachers   2014-04-01
THe teachers in our schools are the best in the nation.

Teachers   2014-03-01
Teachers are always available before and after school and are very knowledgeable in their subject area.

Teachers   2014-02-01
The overall quality of the teachers in my school is excellent. I have truly enjoyed each and every class i have taken because of the teachers. They are all very caring and want the best for their students.

Teachers   2014-02-01
They care about the students

Teachers   2014-03-01
My teachers are probably the highlight of my school; they make the curriculum seem easier that it is.

Teachers   2013-10-01
The teachers are constantly helping students who are having difficulties with the work. There is extra help either in the morning or afternoon weekly and if you can't make it the teachers are willing to work something out with you. The teachers all put effort into their teaching.

Teachers   2013-10-01
The teachers are the best part about the school! They try their best to make the students prosper.

Teachers   2013-10-01
The IB program teaches teachers to have their students do a lot of the work with a little push from the teachers. With this I feel like my teachers teach me more by simply teaching me less. They are more than open to answering questions.

Teachers   2013-10-01
The teachers are the best part of Commack. They are all different within their personalities and teaching styles, but that's what keeps you awake throughout the day. They are loving human beings. Even if you are experiencing a personal problem (such as something going on at home), you can always pull them aside at the end of class and talk to them. They love to get to know about their students, and to have a strong relationship with every individual.

Teachers   2013-10-01
The teachers are alright, they really care about their students and try their hardest to help them out.

Teachers   2013-10-01
The teachers that I have received are, for the most part, very dedicated. They all update their eboard frequently and almost always answer emails at all hours of the day. The teachers not only love to teach but they love their students. They are willing to help you with not only school work but any other dilemmas that you might encounter.

Teachers   2014-02-01
I am a huge fan of most of my teachers.

Teachers   2014-01-01
They are tough, but they are good and prepare us well.

Teachers   2014-01-01
Teachers are all very willing to help a student if they are struggling. We actively use technology in classes for educational purposes. Grading is never too harsh, but also never too lenient.

Teachers   2013-12-01
The teachers are extremely supportive of the students. Although the lessons can be boring at times, the teachers are extremely smart in their subjects. They are always there for their students and help this high school succeed.

Teachers   2013-12-01
The teachers are always available to lend a helping hand.

Teachers   2013-12-01
Most teachers are intelligent and well qualified for their job.

Teachers   2013-12-01
A lot of the teachers at my school are nice and very knowledgeable. I trust most of them and enjoy learning from them. There are the occasional teachers that do not care about the students at all. Some give lectures and expect us to know everything anyway, others teach from the textbook and expect us to understand everything. For the most part though, the teachers are caring and they want us to do well and get good grades. Would say about 5 out of 6 teachers care about the students and try their best to teach us everything.

Teachers   2013-11-01
We have a good set of teachers at our school. Very great interacting with us.

Teachers   2015-03-01
The teachers are very knowledgeable and very eager to help students that are struggling. The majority of teachers go above and beyond what is required to help students succeed. Many of the teachers here interact with students like friends. In most cases teachers are very respective of the ideas and new perspectives that are offered by students, which give students a better feeling of comfort and confidence within the school environment.

Teachers   2015-03-01
The teachers are very helpful and provide great preparation for the future.

Teachers   2015-02-01
The way teachers tesch the students are all diverse and it depends on the teacher, but most of the teachers respect and honor kids accomidations on the way they like to be taught.

Teachers   2014-11-01
I feel as though all the teachers I've had over the course of four years at Commack High School, I had very intelligent and caring teachers. They always wanted to make sure you did well and were always available after class to further assistant students if something was not understood.

Teachers   2014-09-01
Teachers are focused on students needs

Teachers   2014-09-01
They try to help students as best as they can and want them to succeed.

Teachers   2014-09-01
I like most of my teachers

Teachers   2015-05-01
The teachers at Commack High School are very knowledgable and helpful with their students. All teachers are required to have extra-help sessions in order to provide support for struggling students. Every teacher I hah has prepared me very well for their assessments and offered help or guidance when approached.

Teachers   2015-12-01
Most of my teachers are so engaged and want to help the students, but it is also up to the students to put in the work. What I have realized, especially with the IB curriculum, is that great teachers do not have the time to teach the lessons (they designed to help the kids learn) since the curriculum is so packed. But overall, 90% of my teachers each year make it obvious that they love their job and they love educating the younger generations.

Teachers   2015-12-01
Teachers at commack are some of the smartest people i have ever known most teachers teaching style is quite helpful, but sometimes when some teachers just give busy work to pass time, students get annoyed. the assignment should serve a purpose, not just do an assignment for a grade students are quite engaged if you get teachers who are strict and are very powering in terms of teaching. If the teacher becomes easy going then students will relax to, but if you know that they will literally fail you, then you better do your work.

Teachers   2016-09-01
I've formed great relationships with most of my teachers and I know that they are always available to help me, however, some of the teachers don't make learning engaging and lecture the entire time they are teaching. Also, some of the teachers tend to treat the students like children. But overall most of the teachers are great.

Teachers   2016-09-01
Most teachers are very good at their job, in my experience. A majority of the time, there are fun class vibes and learning experiences are very memorable. There is a variety of teaching styles at Commack, which is a good and a bad thing. There are teachers with structural teaching styles, laid back teaching styles, socratic/engaging, etc. which is good for students to be exposed to different ways of learning. Few teachers don't put a lot of effort into teaching, such as putting the bare minimum information on the board that they probably reuse every year, rather than engaging with the class as the notes are worked out on the board. Most if not all teachers can be flexible with helping a student outside of class if the student asks for it.

Teachers   2016-02-01
The teachers as a whole are pretty good. Many of the Science and English teachers though are not very effective at teaching.

Teachers   2016-01-01
Many teachers here are model educators. These teachers know how to assist struggling students and help them to become more involved with their own education. They work extremely hard to make sure each and every one of their students succeeds and their kindness and communications skills improve the overall mood their students by providing a comfortable environment. But this isn't a perfect world so there aren't always going to be perfect educators. There are a handful of teachers at Commack High School that are a bit forceful with their opinions. They then allow their opinions to impact their lessons therefore affecting their students. They do not provide an optimal educational environment for their kids and they provide the least amount of information to allow their students to scrape by. They unintentionally cause their students harm; students believe that because they can't achieve higher marks in the class that maybe they shouldn't become an architect because they can't do a form of math that the professor labels as "child's play" or that they should major in English because "what can someone do with an English degree?" Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinions and perspectives but there are appropriate times and places to share them. the classroom is not one of them.

Teachers   2015-12-01
This school has high-quality teachers who have given me an excellent education. I am well-prepared for college.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-03-01
There are cliques but overall, people are generally friendly. It is hard to get into a clique as they have grown up together but they are nice to people in general. There is not much diversity with about 90 percent of the school being white.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-03-01
Most of the students are respectful towards others

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-09-01
There is typical perr pressure and challanges faced by everyday teenagers similar to what you would find at any other high school. All the faculty and Staff members work hard to make sure social groups are open and to ensure that all the students feel safe and secure in the school. there is rarely a force to do something that is outside the academic area.

Teachers   2016-03-01
Most of the teachers here are terrific. They spend a lot of hours outside of the classroom and make their information available on their websites if you have to miss a class. There are some teachers who are not as communicative as they should be and their teaching styles and expectations can be overwhelming at times but on a whole, the teachers at our school are great.

Teachers   2016-03-01
The teachers at Commack High School are very wise and knowledgeable. They apply real world examples and help students to relate them into real world circumstances

Teachers   2016-03-01
Most of the teachers that I have had are awesome.

Teachers   2016-03-01
Many teachers are engaging and truly care about the learning process of their students, however there is disappointment when teachers often fo not offer help or seem to care whether their students excell for resons other than making themselves meet the necessary quotas.

Teachers   2016-02-01
The quality of the teachers range, but no one is completely awful, most are really good

Teachers   2016-07-01
Great 4 years at Commack High School

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-10-01
There are many different ethnic groups in the school. For the most part students are tolerant of others ethnicity and sexual orientations. There are some social barriers in the school, but for the most part everyone is friendly with each other.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-10-01
Peer pressure is not something that very common in my school. If someone does not want to take part in an activity they are not forced to. We have more than enough people in our grade that if someone does not feel comfortable in a group they will fit in somewhere else. Our grade is very accepting and no one ever feels alone.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-10-01
The majority of kids are genuinely good people, but there are also a lot of typical high school kids.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-10-01
The largest club in my school is the International Cultural Society which consists of 200 people who all condemn bullying and racism. My school is very accepting.

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-03-01
The student body is quite diverse. There are clubs like the international cultural society that promote diversity, and other clubs like that interact club and pay it forward that promote acceptance.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-12-01
There are a variety of clubs to get involved in relating to different interests. I am personally involved in many honor societies and extra-curricular activities so I enjoy it. But, it is however very difficult to make a sports team because the student body is so large, making it very competitive.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-12-01
There are the typical cliques at my school. The jocks, preps, burnouts, smarts. It's definitely possible for kids to be in certain groups that they aren't like. My main social groups consists of really smart kids, drama kids and not so smart kids. I believe that having a diverse group of friends is better than a clique because diversity is healthy for a functioning community. Peer pressure does exist in my school but it's not a huge issue. As for students accepting others, students at my school are completely aware of the different types of kids at the school. Some may be made fun of but no real bullying. Most of us accept people for who they are.

Overall Experience   2013-10-01
This school has offered me infinite opportunities to succeed. I feel supported, and constantly pushed to do my best. My teachers remind me that I'm an excellent student and person more than my own mother does. My school is warm, welcoming, and a haven for me. Our music program is superb; we have been recognized on a state level. We have the best Kickline/Danceline team in the country. Our students are well-taught and are given many resources to surpass the basic requirements of life.

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-09-01
The school is focused on students and you can go to them with questions or problems.

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-06-01
My school can be one of the most accepting and accommodating places you could ever be. All of the teachers and administrators try so hard to include everyone and help students in the best way possible. Unfortunately they can also put a lot of pressure of us to live up to impossible standards. The students at my school are very high achieving, hard working students and that's wonderful. The only problem is, is that you are constantly comparing yourself to all of these people around you and it makes you feel as if you are not good enough. My school is awesome and I love it here; there's just a lot of pressure to always be better and that does lead to great improvement but sometimes you just have to realize that you are doing your best and that will have to be good enough.

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-05-01
I would say that most people are friends with other people but it depends on the person that you are. I an the type of person that will say hi to anyone I know in the hallway.

Overall Experience   2013-09-01
One thing I love about my school is the size, it is very school spirited and there are many events to attend. If I could do it all over, I would join national honor society and student counsel to have a voice. I would most likely attend this school again.

Overall Experience   2013-09-01
I like my school. They offer very good courses. News travels fairly quickly at my school, so sometimes what you say and do could back fire on you. There are pleanty of clubs to join and be a part of. All the teachers are welcoming and understanding. I would go to my school again if i had to start over.

Overall Experience   2013-09-01
The teachers for the IB program seem to really care(Most anyway)

Overall Experience   2013-08-01
School provides top academics with a full IB program, variety of elective classes, large amount of extra curricular activities and a caring supportive team of health and educational professionals.

Overall Experience   2013-07-01
Overall, I like my school because of the opportunities the school offers the students. They also have many events to get the students together, and it gives you an opportunity to meet new people, and new friends. Commack High School also has many clubs to join, so people can get involved with the school, but if you don't see a club you would like, the school allows you to make a new club.

Overall Experience   2013-06-01
At Commack high school, I have learned so much. I have met a lot of good people, as well as my fair share of bad people. I have grown academically, and mentally. The school has taught me so much and I am going to miss it greatly when I go off to college. I have met so many amazing friends who I know I can count on, as well as extremely helpful teachers. I believe that I have received a great education at Commack and I would definitely go back there again.

School is what you make of it and I wish I had been more involved in extra curricular activities.

Overall Experience   2013-10-01
The school offers an IB program which is a big plus since not that many schools offer it. They are also very focused on community service and being a caring school which makes it pretty cool.

Overall Experience   2013-10-01
There are some really good teachers in the higher level courses but there are still a few really bad teachers. Overall I found the school day pretty enjoyable because I liked the classes I am in. I also made a lot of friends and lasting relationships in high school.

Overall Experience   2013-11-01
Large school, over 600 kids in the graduating class. Strong academics, division 1 football team, first class marching band and top kick line.

I love my school. All of the teachers that I have had has been amazing. Whenever I needed help they would make time to help me. I made many friends and memorizes while in school and I wouldn't change it. There are plenty of clubs to join, honor societies, and sports teams to be a part of. You'll always have something to do.

Overall Experience   2013-11-01
Good school, good education programs and good clubs and organizations.

Overall Experience   2013-11-01
My education was great. I relate to many if my teachers and students. We are a very fortunate area and school to be afforded these amazing education opportunities, sports and arts programs are abundant

Overall Experience   2013-12-01
I love being in a big high school. Coming from a class of 600 + kids I am confident for college and have made many friends. Also, being a large school, the experience is great because there are many clubs to join and sports to play. In other words, Commack High School allows option and relationships.

Overall Experience   2013-12-01
The school is much better than a lot of the other high schools in the surrounding area

Overall Experience   2013-12-01
My school was a safe place with mostly great teachers that made learning enjoyable.

a lot of work but I gained a lot from it

The emphasis on your future education is very valuable and I feel that there have been a lot of opportunities for me to get involved

Overall Experience   2014-03-01
The academic quality is excellent, however, the curriculum is quite demanding ( it is an IB world school). I appreciate the material that I am learning, but I have little time to do anything else besides homework and running for the track team. I appreciate how the school hosts events promoting acceptance such as challenge day and Anti-violence initiative day ( a day in which students can sign up to preform various acts with the message of acceptance ).

Overall Experience   2014-01-01
Overall I've enjoyed my time here at CHS. The teachers and administrators, for the most part, genuinely care about the well being of the students. The best part about CHS for me is the music department. The music department here is like a family. It's such a warm, welcoming environment where everyone gets along. The music teachers and the music students are all wonderful people, and I love spending time in the music wing more than any other place in the school; it's my favorite place to be.

Overall Experience   2014-01-01
I like my friends and teachers as well as the clubs and internships I am involved in. I nike playing varsity sports as well. I would choose to come back to this school, however if I had other choices I know a few schools I rather go to.

Commack High School is an excellent school. The school is very big, can be overwhelming and very competitive.

Overall Experience   2015-07-01
I love the enthusiasm and spirit that the students and faculty gain when it comes to school events such as sport matches and pep rally. I also appreciated the amount of effort the faculty, students and committees put into making events such as school dances and game nights special. I think that this school has taught me the importance of unity and family, however it would have made for a better experience if some students held a more optimistic view of our high school.

Overall Experience   2016-03-01
The nature of the program designed by the Commack High school gave me the opportunity to know where I stood with regards to my peers. I felt the this school was competitive academically as I participated in the rigorous I.B. diploma program but I feel it will help me in college. I have made friends that I will have for life and I am very happy that my high school career was at Commack High!!!

Commack high school is a great environment for both education and extracurricular activities. The teachers are awesome in that they always want what is best for their students. Teachers actively work to help their students achieve their goals and gain the knowledge they need.

A unique feature at my school is the diversity of the clubs that are offered. Joining clubs was definitely one of my most favorite experiences at this school so far. I would definitely choose this school again because the students, teachers, and parents are part of a wonderful community that is supportive and help improve all the opportunities offered by the school.

Overall Experience   2016-07-01
Overall, this school offers many opportunities for involvement in a variety of activities. Additionally, there are a relatively large number of different elective classes offered. Although not all classes/teachers are particularly interesting, the school offers a high-quality education.

Overall Experience   2016-02-01
I have enjoyed the History curriculum greatly and have been in International Baccalaureate History for the past 3 years.

Overall Experience   2016-01-01
Because of the large class sizes at Commack High School there are many different types of students and staff, some that are mean and some that are as sweet as sugar. The differentiation gives a student so many options regarding who to associate oneself with. The school doesn't have many cliques; most people spread out and divide their time amongst their friends from primary school with those that they've just come in contact with recently. That is a major part to what makes the school unique. A majority of the students and staff are extremely accepting of others no matter how goofy or different someone is. Everyone has a place in Commack and that isn't something that many other high schools can say.

Overall Experience   2015-12-01
This school is unique, because the teachers really put in a lot of effort and really care about the students' progress.

Overall Experience   2015-12-01
Although I feel some of the teachers need to improve their teaching methods, I feel that overall I have been provided with a good academic experience.

Overall Experience   2015-12-01
Commack High School gives its students a great education and many opportunities to get involved in the community.

Overall Experience   2015-12-01
It is a very good school.

As a senior, I look back at my time in high school. My favorite part about commack high school is its diversity of elective classes, sports and clubs. No matter what your interests are, you can definitely create a schedule to fit you. I think that our school is so unique because it is so large. My graduating class is the largest to come though commack school district, it has over 600 students. This allowed me and everyone in my grade to interact with many different types of people from different backgrounds, beliefs, orientations, and cultures.

Overall Experience   2015-12-01
Moving to commack was a great change for me. I went to a school where we would be ranked and i was probably ranked number 3 in my school. But as I went to commack high school things changed. Everyone was really smart and helpful. They knew exactly what was going on in class and really worked for the grades and knowledge they attained. I went from being number 3 to probably 300. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, it just made me realize i need to work harder and more pressure was placed on me. favorite experience was probably at clubs, getting together with friends and taking part in a club. this school is unique because it allocates time in every aspect of the school, in terms of academics, athletics, clubs and anything else. you won't also get a school where all the students also turn out to be all smart. which is probably the way they have been teaching that has gotten them to just high place. definitely go to this school again, but wish i could start from elementary school in commack because they also had a part in the childs education.

Teachers   2013-04-01
It definitely varies. If you show an interest though they reciprocate.

Overall Experience   2016-08-01
The teachers and faculty strive to make the school the best it could be

Overall Experience   2016-09-01
This school provides several ways to get involved in a variety of areas. The teachers are great and the students are mostly respectful.

Educational Outcomes   2014-06-01
This school definitely provides the right education for students, most students in this school are attending the top schools all over the country. I felt very prepared for college after graduation, but not so much the "real world." But, I feel like that's how a lot of schools work. The education is phenomenal but that's the only focus.

Academics   2013-04-01
The academics include the IB program, which is extremely rigorous and good preparation for college, and anyone who feels like they can handle it is able to try it.

Academics   2013-04-01
Unfortunately too many electives have been cancelled due to budget issues. Generally academics are good.

Academics   2013-03-01
There are plenty of challenging classes should you chose to take them. The school offers many IB classes and puts a strong emphasis on them. Lacking regular honors classes for those who find IB too difficult but regular classes too easy

Educational Outcomes   2015-06-01
I feel as though the IB program has prepared me for the workload that I will experience next year at college, but I wish I learned some more "real world" skills such as paying bills or investing in the stock market.

Educational Outcomes   2015-03-01
Every single one of my classes in high school prepared me for "the real world, " each in their own individual way. Many of the subjects in college are extensions of the topics I learned in high school. Required classes such as health and CCC showed us students how to balance checkbook and complete daily activities in "the real world." Going to this school was such a great experience now that I think back to it, I had a great four years there.

Academics   2013-06-01
Academics at this school are taught very well. Teachers are always there to help the students and push them to their full potential. Commack was ranked nationally last year and continues to have their students succeed each year.

Academics   2013-06-01
There is a wide range of subjects and courses of study that one can choose to take. There is a large amount of art, science, and other electives. You can take a class in just about anything you are interested in. Commack is an IB Diploma school. As an IB Diploma candidate, I know more about this program than the standard level courses. Time management is very important to this program and writing skills need to be exceptional. The program teaches one how to think, write, and is very preparative for college.

Academics   2013-06-01
The workload is reasonable, though homework can at times get out of hand. Teachers are generally helpful/knowledgable. IB curriculum is strong, but perhaps overemphasised.

Academics   2013-09-01
There are so many interesting classes. The workload is average for what any other school probably has. There is everything from robotics to chorus. The advanced classes have a little more work than regular, advanced students have a higher expectation when it comes to work qualitiy.

Academics   2013-09-01
The IB program forces you to take certain courses. The program is tedious and colleges do not count the credits unless you get a near perfect score on the final. Does not seem to be worth the effort although I am doing the full program.

Academics   2013-10-01
There are seemingly infinite courses available at this school. We offer IB Diploma Programme courses, and a couple AP courses, such as Statistics and Psychology. The curriculum of every class is well balanced; topics change just enough for you to maintain your interest. The workload varies depending on the difficulty of the course.

Academics   2013-10-01
The academics are pretty rigorous. There is a choice not to be in the IB program, but for students who are, the workload is intense. I never had a problem getting into a class I wanted but I know friends who occasionally have.

Academics   2013-10-01
The academics offered at the school include regents level classes, IB classes, and some AP classes. Students can take many different classes. The teachers are nice. The amount of work the IB and AP classes get can be burdensome at times, but are manageable.

Academics   2013-11-01
We have loads of ib classes and dual enrollment classes.

Academics   2013-11-01
you have the option to take tough classes, AP and IB offered

Academics   2013-12-01
As an IB diploma student, this survey is a little biased for me. I am used to a lot of work and studying hard to get good grades but I can't say the same for other students. I do know of kids who struggle in school and wouldn't feel the same about these answers as I do. Personally, I do not find most of my classes hard (except for HL Physics) and it is relatively easy to get good grades. The class requirements are very good though and I believe everyone can agree. Everyone has to take a Math, Social Studies, Science and English class but my school offers different classes for each subject. If you don't want Physics, you can take Chemistry, Biology or even Technology. This works the same for the Math, Social Studies, English and elective classes. Students can choose which class to take instead of being stuck in one certain class. You are never limited to one certain class.

Academics   2013-11-01
Good academics. We have the IB program. They switch lesson plans up a lot. Try to make learning, "fun."

Academics   2013-12-01
Although the work load does get heavy at times, the teachers know how to be fair and not stress out their students. Doing the IB Diploma I have learned how to control my work load and balance my time making the academics meaningful and useful.

Academics   2013-12-01
Our school was rated in the top 100 schools throughout the country

Academics   2013-12-01
The workload is fair and I have always gotten the classes I wanted.

Academics   2014-03-01
The majority of the teachers are excellent; they are knowledgable of the subjects they teach and have passion for what they do. They make difficult classes such as IB Economics easier. I feel that many of the classes that I am taking would have been much more difficult if I didn't have my teachers as my teachers.

Academics   2014-02-01
depending on the classes you are taking. But if you are in the IB program it's a big work load

Academics   2014-04-01
Depending on the class, the workload varies. Regents classes are easy. High passing rates.

Academics   2016-07-01
The curriculum is tough but very helpful

Teachers   2013-06-01
Very many good teachers! It is possible to get a bad teacher, but a majority of the teachers are are of high quality and very accessible to students.

Academics   2014-07-01
There are a wide range of academics available at Commack High School. Students can take a regular course of study, or take IB courses. In addition, some students may choose to take a vocational course path. No matter which courses a student chooses, there are many options to choose.

Academics   2014-06-01
It's a very intense high school and there can be so much work. There are times were students will be pulling multiple all nighters in a week to get everything done but the teachers are just preparing us. Everyone works very hard including the teachers but sometimes there can be an insane amount of work.

Academics   2014-05-01
Academics at CHS are very good if you make the best of them. You are afforded many opportunities to excel and prepare for college as long as you work hard and accurately use your resources (there are many!).

Academics   2014-05-01
Some teachers try to teach us life lesson and related it to the curriculum that we are learning.

Teachers   2013-03-01
Many of the teachers are younger and enthusiastic. All are available for extra help if needed

Academics   2016-09-01
IB classes are hard but valuable for college, however, there are very few AP courses available.

Academics   2016-09-01
Teachers are good at their job, workload is a lot to handle if you take difficult classes.

Teachers   2013-09-01
The teachers are pretty good. Most of them have been teaching for a number of years and hav ea great amount of experiance. They always try to switch up their teahing styles and the way they present their curriculum.

Teachers   2013-09-01
Most of the teachers are very educated and go above and beyond to help their students

Teachers   2013-08-01
Most teachers are supportive and helpful. Almost all of them have extra help hours. They are knowledgeable in their fields and consistent with grading.

Teachers   2013-08-01
Most of the teaches here are great. They care about their students and want them to do well in their class.

Teachers   2013-07-01
Some suck i've had some really cool ones that i plan on visiting every once in awhile

Academics   2016-08-01
I covered most of this in previous "review" questions. I have a comment on workload, though. I think the workload for my child is way too high. He is an honor student and a year-round athlete, so I would expect that his free time would be extremely limited. However, his free time seems to be completely missing. I will grant that his time management skills are lacking, so school work takes longer than it otherwise should. But even granting that, I think he has way too much work to do and he has a very hard time balancing that with the rest of his life. I have heard from former students that they were so well-prepared by CHS that they found their college classes to be easy. The goal should not be to simulate college; the goal should be to prepare for college. If students find their first year in college challenging, that's fine. I see a lot of CHS students struggling to keep up with the work and I just don't see any benefit there. As I mentioned previously, high school should be a time for the students to experiment and find out what they like. With the current academic workload, I don't think there is any time for that to happen.

Academics   2014-06-01
There is the IB courses and regular courses at this school. Most teachers are great and interested in not only educating but making the lives of students better. The curriculum varies from student to student, and the workload also varies from student to student.

Teachers   2013-04-01
All the teachers at commack are qualified and are successful at teaching their subject. However it does depend how they teach it. SOme teachers teach using methods that make it difficult for everyone to understand.

Academics   2014-09-01
They give a lot of work and the study options aren't like they used to.

Academics   2014-01-01
Academics here are what the students make of them. If they want them to be challenging, and they take all IB courses, they're strongly challenged with a heavier workload. But they can also do the bare minimum too, which is a nice option to have. You can choose what you get out of your classes.

Academics   2014-01-01
teachers are always helpful and available for extra support.

Academics   2014-02-01
Sometimes teachers won't teach the students. Many courses have required me to teach myself the material.

Academics   2013-11-01
I am a IB Diploma Student. School is challenging. The work load is a lot but worth it. I also am involved in many music classes. The music department is amazing

Academics   2013-11-01
The academies are very well at this school and I have learned a lot.

Academics   2013-11-01
I feel that some of the teachers don't really want to be there. In my French class ( IB 1), no one in the class knows how to read numbers or say things correctly. These are things that people should have learned in their first year of french.

Academics   2013-10-01
My school is an international baccalaureate school. The IB program is very challenging and the amount of work given is almost unbearable.

Educational Outcomes   2014-04-01
I felt that the IB program did not help me with college. If I were to do it again, I would take more college credited classes.

Overall Experience   2016-08-01
Please see my comments under the "quality of teachers" question. In addition to that, I'll say that the overall experience is positive. There are plenty of teachers and opportunities that leave the students with a positive experience as they go through the high school. However, there are also a couple of things that drive me nuts and tarnish a good part of the high school experience. One problem is the music program. The music program at Commack has gotten lots of accolades, and rightly so. A lot of kids exit the school as accomplished musicians. However, the ends don't always justify the means. There seems to be a big rivalry between the music and sports groups -- so much so that most of the time, the students have to pick one or the other. You are an accomplished musician and a talented athlete, but as a teenager, you have to decide which is more important and concentrate only on that. That mindset does a complete disservice to the students. High school (and adolescence in general) is a time where students should be encouraged to try as many different activities as possible. This is where they learn what they like and what they don't like. As a lifelong musician, I can't imagine what my life would have been like if I had been locked out of all of my higher-level musical activities in high school just because I had some other interests. But in fact, that is exactly what Commack does -- it locks many interested students out of any of the extra-curricular musical groups because of completely unrelated criteria. Another (and probably related) problem with the music department is the marching band program. The fact that all band students in the school are required to be involved in the marching band shows what the priorities of the school are. First and foremost, the marching band program is an "after school" program and not part of the regular curriculum. Forcing students to be part of this program is nonsensical. Ran out of space...

The Commack Mom's group on Facebook is something else but otherwise parents seem to care about their children and who they surround themselves with.

Overall Experience   2016-04-01
Although I dread coming to school everyday I would lime to start over. there are some classes I wish I could've taken earlier than I did. I also love running cross country and track and wouldn't miss it for the world. Most of my teachers make it fun for me to learn everything that I want to learn.

Overall Experience   2016-04-01
Most of the students parents are different and have or can have very opinionated minds. I feel like a small percentage are optimistic and helpful. They are sweet, some, but most just care for their own children which is perfectly fine but they aren't involved with others.

Overall Experience   2016-03-01
I love that there are many ways for motivated students to get involved in the school community such as joining clubs, teams, honor societies, taking advances classes, and choosing from a variety of electives. On the other hand, I don't find that the majority of students take advantage of these opportunities, and it would be nice to see a wider range of school spirit and acceptance. My favorite experience has been the running teams, because many of the members are motivated to become better runners and love to see their teammates excell as well, and we also enjoy travelling together, supporting the boys/girls teams, and helping out at the summer camp for children in the neighborhood.

Overall Experience   2015-03-01
Good school, very large student body, parents very competitive

Overall Experience   2015-06-01
i think my school likes to tuck things under the carpet and is too worried about their reputation to actually realize whats wrong with the school. Just this year we had kids on the media for rape jokes and anti-Semitic t shirts. Of course the people behind these actions were told most importantly to not talk to the media or spread what happened, but no actual punishment took place for these kids behind the rape jokes, and one of them is going on to a good school, UCONN. Overall i am very disappointed to be an alumni from Commack , and only wish for better things to come in the future for this town.

Overall Experience   2015-06-01
This school emphasizes the IB program to a great degree. It's difficult to choose your own route because many teachers and guidance councilors are pushed to pressure students into taking the IB program.

Overall Experience   2015-10-01
I feel that 650 kids in a graduating class is way too many. It is harder to be chosen for a sports team because there are so many kids trying out. There are many clubs to choose from and the teachers are always available for extra help. I do feel that the IB students are doted on and the kids that perform average in school are left in the dust.

Overall Experience   2014-06-01
My overall experience at this school was an okay in the fact that it was an emotional roller coaster. Of course, that was my fault as well but the school did not make it easier for me. I was going through a really rough time and nobody cared to listen to me until about 11th grade. My favorite part of high school was the stage crew club, and I would only do the last two years of high school over again because those were the only years that I actually felt like I belonged.

Overall Experience   2014-03-01
My experience in Commack has been ok. I feel as if I have received a very good education attending Commack High School. Although the curriculum is difficult and they expect a lot from their students, I believe this is the correct way to prepare students for college and for ultimately entering the workforce. I believe the school has the students best interest in mind. I would most likely choose to attend Commack again, if I could do it all over.

Overall Experience   2014-04-01
I wish I was not forced to follow a specific academic path. The student body is not a very open minded group of people.

Overall Experience   2014-02-01
I dont think i would do it all over again but i liked it because when ever anything big happened in the community we all get together. Stuff like this only happens when something big happened and i think it should be occurring eery day in the community...

Overall Experience   2014-01-01
I wish I had gotten more involved in clubs. Also wish that the students got along better.

Overall Experience   2013-12-01
The academics at this school make it great. The honor societies and opportunities given are really helpful. I disagree with the IB curriculum offered at the school though. I wish AP classes were offered instead of IB credits. I enjoy going to school and have never had a problem with faculty. But, I feel students can often get "lost in the crowd" due to the amount of students in the building. It is harder to stand out in classes and it is a very competitive environment.

Overall Experience   2013-12-01
I'm an average student. High School is not fun to go to but I make the best of it and my school has a lot to offer. Most of the teachers care about the students and do what they can to make sure we learn. I am a part of a few clubs while also balancing the IB diploma program and varsity fencing. I believe that as a High School, my school offers more than most and it's one of the better schools to go to.

Overall Experience   2013-11-01
My overall experience at this school has been fairly well because I have learned a large range of ideas. However I am not satisfied with the way some things work.

Overall Experience   2013-10-01
Commack is too strict. Our school has no school spirit. Everything is so tightly organized that it is hard to let loose and have a good time. On the other hand, acedemically the school has a lot of options, from AP, IB, College and Regents level classes. I am a senior this year and they only thing that I love and am so thankful administration has not gotten ride of it yet is early release for seniors. I am able to get out of school 2 periods early. Commack is not unique, the only thing I can think of is that our dance team wins at Nationals (in florida) every year. I don't have any other schooling options, so if I had to redo it Comack is my only option.

Overall Experience   2013-04-01
I think my high school is very good. I think it offers many excellent choices that caters to almost anybody. I have made many great friends here and although school spirit may be lacking we all seem to stick together.

Overall Experience   2013-03-01
The academics here are supposedly really impressive, or at least that's what I'm always being told. I've had a few teachers that were very intelligent and friendly. Overall I'd say I got a pretty good education. I'd choose this school again because I made great friends and ended up in my top choice college.

Overall Experience   2013-03-01
Have enjoyed the friends I have made. Sometimes students can be a little snobby. Might pick a different school where students were not so entitled

Student Culture & Diversity   2016-09-01
Mostly white kids with some Asians. Very few black or Latino students.

Student Culture & Diversity   2016-09-01
This school can get a little cliquey, but there's a place for everyone. Eventually, everyone basically comes together during school events and it is nice.

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-07-01
Our school is not very ethnically or racially diverse. As students of Commack High School we are taught to love and accept everyone no matter their ethnic or racial background.

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-06-01
It's hard to fit in with the "cool crowd" but it's not hard to find friends at this school. Student involvement is very high but peer pressure is definitely a problem when it comes to this school.

Overall Experience   2013-10-01
I enjoy my school, and I enjoy my friends but I think that other schools offer so much more. They treat us like we're babies and I think we need some more freedom and openness.

Student Culture & Diversity   2015-01-01
Since the students in this school are not very diverse, there is quite a bit of judgement but very little bullying. The same thing goes with students of various sexual orientations.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-12-01
The student culture and diversity at this school are typical of other schools on Long Island

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-12-01
Although my school does not have much diversity, those who are different are accepted. Those with different sexual orientation are also accepted. Like any other school, there is some peer pressure.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-12-01
While there are some people who are homophobic, racist, republican (JK) etc., the general student body is very much pluralistic, respectful and accepting.

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-02-01
Many students are very involved in the school but some are not. Most students just do their own thing. the school is mostly white there isn't much diversity but people are very accepting of others.

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-02-01
there will always be bullies but kids are accepted

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-02-01
School can be generally cliquey but I feel there is little peer pressure to do anything you don't want to do.

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-01-01
If you look for nice, friendly people and make an effort to be friends with them you can be.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-10-01
My high school is welcoming to all ethnic groups and sexual preferences, which I greatly appreciate. People are open-minded, and don't think twice of a person just because they are a tad different. We have multiple clubs that dismiss tensions in-between groups, such as the Best Buddies club and the Gay-Straight Alliance. To be "accepted" within my school, a lot of it has to do with intelligence. Those who are in advanced courses (or enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Programme) are seen as "higher" on the social scale. Friendliness often goes a very long way! People frequently mistake popularity for friendliness.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-10-01
There a lot of cliques at Commack.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-09-01
Most of the students are from white upper middle class. I would say about half school is Catholic other half is Jewish. Some minorities, but not many. Not much peer pressure mostly everyone is accepting of diversity.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-06-01
At our school, many of the students get along, more than those who do not. There are many clubs that help students feel more accepted, and to feel more comfortable in their own skin. We also have clubs such as Pay It Forward for students to help out others in need and commit random acts of kindness. Students are very involved in the school, and we are taught about the dangers of drugs, violence, peer pressure, etc.

It's hard to answer this question when you are not a student. I can only go on the anecdotes that were relayed by my child. It's also hard to answer in aggregate. In general, the teachers seem to be above average, but there are also individual teachers that are not so great. So in general, the teachers seem to be engaging and approachable. However, I know of specific teachers who seem like they should not be there. It sometimes appears that they go out of their way to make things more difficult. With the number of students in the school, this can't be a secret. Administration must see the complaints from students and parents about a small number of teachers. There is also the matter of curriculum. I have seen several examples in the IB program where the actual coursework is kind of ridiculous. One example is IB Physics, where the majority of the students dropped the class before the second marking period was over. That's an indication that either the teacher or the coursework is inappropriate. Another example is IB Spanish. A significant portion of this class is spent on the culture in Spanish-speaking countries, but very little time is actually spent on the Spanish language. This leaves the students without the ability to actually speak conversationally, which really should be the whole point of the program.

teachers at this school are excitd to come to class and genuly care about the students and how they do

The teachers of Commack High range from good to bad. Some teachers prefer certain kids and as long as they are trying and working they succeed. Each teacher grades very differently from the next but they don't make it impossible. The two problems I will always have with the school system is that kids don't learn how to deal with real life problems and don't give any freedom. I have to live on my own next year to make my own choices but the staff of the school doesn't teach me how to live on my own. I also disagree with not having the freedom to even go to the bathroom without a pass. I'm incapable of doing very simple tasks because my teacher simply doesn't want me to.

Teachers   2015-12-01
There is a broad mix of teachers within my school; some are easy to work with and good at teaching while some others I have trouble paying attention to because they don't convey their lessons properly.

Teachers   2015-03-01
I've never really had any issue with a teacher throughout high school. There may be a teacher or two that don't come off as friendly as that rest but otherwise, they are all approachable. They know what they are talking about and have organized lesson plans every day. Whenever I need help with something, I've never had a teacher turn me down even if I were to go early in the morning before my actual class with them. Most of them also encourage their students to go to extra help. I think the educational staff is overall excellent.

Don't get me wrong, there's plently of teachers I've gotten close with throughout my years at Commack High School but i've also had to deal with teachers that could have made my high school experience better. Each teacher is different and unique in their own way and maybe some personalities and teaching styles aren't for me. Overall, the teaching styles are adequate but occasionally I continue to have those moments where I sit in class thinking "why are we even learning this?" The teachers are very knowledgeable and pretty consistent in grading. From what I know they have all gone to amazing colleges. The only thing i think could be improved is their communication skills and interests in students. I've seen students crying in the halls or in classroom for various different reasons and some teachers won't even ask what's wrong or talk to them privately. I've gone to Commack High School for almost 4 years now and I can honestly say there isn't one teacher I've really ever gotten along with or know on a more personal level. It's not that I hate any of them or don't get along with any, it's just that I feel like I don't really KNOW any of them. It's truly such a shame.

The teachers at the school are all very different in their grading. You could hand in the same paper to 2 different teachers and get a 70 and a 100.

Teachers   2014-11-01
Most teachers are well prepared and care about the students.

Teachers   2014-03-01
The teacher in Commack are average. They are usually available for extra help if needed, though there have been occasions, particularly in honors classes, where the teacher does not explain well enough and expects the student to be able to teach themselves. The idea being that because you are in an honors class, you should be able to work out your issue on your own. On the whole, I would say that most of the teachers do care about the students and do take their job seriously.

Teachers   2014-04-01
Like any high school, you have good teachers and bad teachers.

Teachers   2014-05-01
The teachers are pretty good but some teachers just don't care but those teachers that don't care are probably about 5-6 teachers total out if the whole school. Other teacher really care and want to get to know who you are as a person and not just a student.

Teachers   2015-03-01
Most are good, a few lacking

Teachers   2013-11-01
Teachers at school are very good and most want to help the students. Although some would rather not be bothered with assisting the students.

Teachers   2014-01-01
teachers do there best, given that there hands are tied sometimes due to state education regulations.

Teachers   2014-02-01
Some teachers don't teach and give out good grades when they don't deserve it. But other teachers defiantly care about their students

Teachers   2016-05-01
The teachers have proven over time to be inconsistent at my High School. They either go above and beyond for their students and get every possible detail out of them possible or fail to engage and impose new ideas within a classroom that stimulate a good classroom environment. The clash between the good and not so great teachers can change the flux of a student's day as they go from a happy environment to a place they dread to be.

Teachers   2016-05-01
There are too few teachers at Commack that really care about their students

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-11-01
Pretty much no diversity. We need more ethnic kids to make it diverse at the least.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-11-01
There is lots of peer pressure about drinking, drugs, and other bad decisions.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-11-01
The students at this school aren't open to anything new. They're super cliquey. The only thing that everyone here enjoys doing, is getting drunk at parties. They all complain about how there is nothing to do here.

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-09-01
Minorities typically get made fun of.

Overall Experience   2013-11-01
I moved here for my senior year and I haven't had a good experience so far. The students have been incredibly rude to me. I understand that it is hard for them to leave their cliques and engage in conversation with new people, but the least that they could do is smile and say hello. This school has a strong IB program and since I didn't come from a school that provided that, students and staff here keep implying that I am not as intelligent as the rest of the students. When I tried to sign up for classes, I was supposed to take Pre-Calculus and Psychology but the woman putting my schedule together lied and said that this school didn't have either of those classes. I soon found out, two weeks into the school year, that they did in fact have those classes. Also, they make you feel like you have to take IB classes in order to be successful in life. I feel that this school is more interested in their appearance and status rather than a students education.

Overall Experience   2014-09-01
The people are just horrible and they don't really care about their students as much as they say they do.

Overall Experience   2016-05-01
If you have a student that is average in all ways or better, than they will do fine at Commack. If you have a child that struggles in any way, Commack is not for you

Overall Experience   2016-02-01
COMMACK MOMS ARE THE WORST, They are crazy and think their child is the best and everyone else is the worst.

Student Culture & Diversity   2014-01-01
My high school is 97% white and wealthy, not enough diversity.

Student Culture & Diversity   2013-04-01
Commack has a large Caucasian population. There is a small amount of minorities and you only really see them if your a part of the ICS. A lot of the kids have issues with drinking and illegal substance abuse in school.
